I have mentioned several times about having a work/life balance but you are probably wondering how to do that if you start working from home? Trust me, I’ve been there. The friends and relatives that think you can stop working whenever they want to stop by or talk. Don’t get stressed out. Just relax. I’m going to tell you three simple tips to help you balance your family life with a work from home job. Here are some ideas that will help: #1: Eliminate DistractionsOne of the biggest issues with working from home is having too many distractions. You may have nosy neighbors, phone calls from friends and family, a dog with a very small bladder or frequent interruptions from your children. Then there is the house itself. How many times have you noticed dirty dishes, laundry, fingerprints on the sliding glass door and you just want to stop what you are doing to handle it? Sometimes you just have to be firm and say sorry, I’m at work. I’ll have a break at such and such time. I’ll deal with it then. #2: No is a wonderful wordA big problem with telecommuters is that try to take on every job and project they come across. In an effort to feel secure, telecommuters are notorious for accepting every project that’s offered to them. This can lead to stress, overwork and just general burn-out. Please learn to say no when you are asked to take on additional duties or projects. It’s not a sign of weakness to admit that you can’t take additional projects. #3: Manage your health.Just because you work from home doesn’t mean you should forget to take care of yourself. I know I did the weight gain when I began working more and more from home. It was just too easy to eat snacks and have too many treats throughout the day. Added to that is the lack of activity and even worse, lack of health insurance. Whatever the reason, you still need to take care of yourself, both emotionally and physically. Stop trying to work if you are sick, take time to recuperate. Take me time and get around other people,. The best recommendation I can give is take me time. Even if it a bubble bath or a trip tot the park. Just have a mental health break. |
